Brookfield Select Board hired an assistant assessor and signed an emergency water contract after zero applicants came forward. Members unanimously appointed Eric Nugent, a Marine Corps veteran pursuing a master's in public administration, to the assistant assessor post. Acting as the Water Commission, the board awarded East National Water LLC an $8,250-a-month operating contract after superintendent Nolan resigned and nearly five weeks of advertising, costing $1,200, drew not one applicant.
One member called the deal "horrible, but it's half as horrible as some of the other companies that have offered us for the same work." The board also reviewed final design plans for 30 ADA sidewalk ramps funded by a $1.2 million federal block grant, with Shelby Hill of Deep Roots Distillery seeking a one-day pouring permit through Friends of Brookfield, and accepted two change orders on the delayed Rice Corner Road culvert project.
