Select Board · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Brookfield Select Board awards a $140,590 bid and splits 2-1 over how to fund Gay Road paving before winter. Meeting jointly with the Board of Assessors on September 23, the board unanimously awarded a construction contract to KNF Construction LLC of Holyoke, noting the top two bids landed within $7,000 of each other. Chair Sarah Campbell cast the lone dissenting vote on a 2-1 motion empowering a staff member to pursue a new bid package or direct coordination with contractor Mass Broken Stone for Gay Road's final resurfacing, saying only, "I'm for getting the road paid, but I have a specific reason why I'm a no." The board also debated adding line painting to several unpainted roads, approved six months of back-dated minutes, and closed with a roll-call vote entering executive session over contract talks with the New England Police Benevolent Association after disputing which Open Meeting Law exemption applied.
