BROOKFIELD — The Brookfield Board of Registrars spent more than three hours certifying signatures on a town petition against the voter rolls, closing the meeting with a combined tally of 662. Three registrars, identified only as Nancy, Carol and Lois, split the alphabetized voter list and checked each signer's name and address, marking unmatched signers "no such registered voter" and illegible or unverifiable entries "unable to identify." Duplicate signatures were set aside and excluded from the count: "If they've already been checked off and put it as a duplicate, we can't count it," one registrar said. Midway through, the board briefly discussed whether the petition's subject, referred to only as "Mike" or "Michael," needed roughly 500 or "526 or 527" signatures, without resolving the question on the recording.
The session, livestreamed on Brookfield Community Access, included no public comment and ended with an unopposed motion to adjourn at 4:19 p.m.
