Brookfield Hires New Treasurer, Extends Radio License
Brookfield hired a new treasurer at a fraction of the contracted rate and kept Apple Country Radio on a short leash.
Select Board · Meeting of June 17, 2026
Brookfield hired a new treasurer at a fraction of the contracted rate and kept Apple Country Radio on a short leash. The Select Board unanimously appointed Mary Leroux as town treasurer at $45 an hour, replacing an outside firm averaging $175 an hour, and granted Apple Country Radio a 30-day extension while Vice Chair Richard Chaffee and Clerk Beth Coughlin pushed to raise the station's roughly $2,100 annual fee. Station founder Sharon said "the insurance was insisted upon by the town and I complied," arguing she cannot absorb more cost.
The board also appointed Matthew Shagle a full-time police officer, approved $46,000 in highway budget transfers, and tasked Chaffee with finding a contractor after someone put a foot through the transfer station's deck.
