BROOKFIELD — The Brookfield Select Board voted to add a deficit-spending placeholder article to the June 4 Annual Town Meeting warrant and restarted its search for a permanent town administrator. Officials said the town's technology account is about $30,000 short, the highway expense account has only $900 left through June 30, and the general insurance buffer is gone after an unexpected rate hike. "We are dangerously out of money for this year," a staff member told the board.
The board also voted to add a highway mechanic position, a stairlift funding placeholder and nine citizen petitions to the warrant, and unanimously established a Town Administrator Search Committee, with Clerk Beth L. Coughlin leading that discussion. The board closed the open session by voting to enter executive session on personnel and bargaining matters.
