BROOKFIELD — The Brookfield Select Board voted to extend Apple Country Radio's green room license 90 days amid a dispute over state procurement law. Chair Sarah Campbell cited Massachusetts General Law Chapter 40, Section 3, allowing municipal leases to nonprofits "for terms of up to 30 years," while another member warned a longer term could trigger Chapter 30B bidding rules. Station operator Sharon Mahoney said she has invested $12,000 in the green room and warned that "an inordinate amount of time on paperwork" burdens the volunteer operation; the board also voted to let her broadcast once ready during the 90-day window.
Separately, the board hired the firm Mass Munifen for interim treasury help at rates up to $225 an hour after finding no job applicants, and voted to post the town administrator opening at $45 to $55 an hour. The board also elected Sarah Campbell chair and Beth Coughlin clerk, and appointed Ashley Denison a full-time police officer.
