Board interviews two highway superintendent finalists
Brookfield's Select Board interviewed two finalists for highway superintendent but made no hiring decision.
Select Board · Meeting of September 30, 2026
Brookfield's Select Board interviewed two finalists for highway superintendent but made no hiring decision. Chair Sarah Campbell and fellow board members questioned Sergio Freitas, a 30-year construction veteran currently with the town of East Longmeadow, and Devin Sanders, who has spent nearly eight years with the town of Wellesley, on how they would run a department with three full-time employees, 40 road miles and a $500,000 budget. Both candidates acknowledged the town's frontline plow trucks currently have frozen brakes, chains and sprockets; Freitas called the equipment "rough" while Sanders said the fleet is "decent" but needs repair after improper winter storage.
The board also signed routine warrants, including a $208,248.30 payroll warrant and a $181,869.90 withholding warrant. Sanders said a truck his current department ordered more than two years ago may not be ready until January.
