Planning Board · Meeting of October 7, 2026

Brookfield's Planning Board, down to three of five seats, voted to let Chair Kevin Erkkila negotiate state-law deadline extensions rather than risk automatic approval of permits it can't fully review. The board voted 3-0 to authorize extension agreements under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 40A, Section 9, after Vice Chair Christopher Gorman confirmed he plans to resign around November, leaving the board even shorter-handed. Clerk Steve Karrmann called parts of a 47-page resident complaint about the Oak Home Farm property "just very inappropriate," saying most concerns had already been addressed through prior permit extensions.

The board also voted 3-0 to let Erkkila negotiate a new hearing date with Epic Pastries' owners after their bakery permit lapsed unnoticed, and heard a pre-application pitch for two "individual canine care cottages" for rescue dogs near Route 9.
